LYSIS

The project “Joint actions for the development and implementation of new technologies for the optimal management of water resources in the urban environment/LYSIS” is implemented within the framework of the INTERREG V-A Greece – Bulgaria 2014 – 2020 program.

Target

The main objective of the “LYSIS” project is to adapt socio-climatic changes to a sustainable urban water management by designing a smart system that will recognize and manage the changes continuously. The dual nature of the project lies in the fact that the “LYSIS” project applies two approaches adapted to the particular needs of each partner: in the Municipalities of Pavlos Melas and Blagoevgrad, the “LYSIS” project intends to store water through smart irrigation systems, while in the Municipality of Drama, plans to conserve excess water by making it available for use.

Expected immediate results

  • Sustainable urban water management and conservation of water resources through the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
  • Reduction of operational and administrative costs of irrigation systems in urban areas.
  • Early diagnosis and/or prevention of possible accidents, thanks to irrigation with water reserves, and an increased sense of security for residents.
  • Promote the importance of dynamic monitoring and its contribution to the optimization of water resources management.
  • Dissemination of water conservation know-how to the general public and local administration staff.
  • Developing the necessary maturity for future financing of infrastructure projects.
  • Exchange of know-how between project partners.
  • Raising awareness among local residents, youth and water conservation authorities.
  • Infrastructure improvement.
  • Creating new avenues for investment in new smart technologies (SMEs, research institutes, private investors).
  • Increasing biodiversity.
  • Improving the quality of life of residents.
  • Increasing the capacity of authorities in water resources management.
  • Protection of natural resources.
  • Financial benefits for local authorities.

Contribution

EUROACTION A.E. provided technical and advisory support for the management and implementation of the project to the Municipality of Drama (Lead Partner) and the Municipality of Pavlos Melas (Partner 2). Individual actions implemented within the project include:

  • The design and analysis of technologically advanced systems for water management in the urban fabric.
  • The evaluation and assessment report of the performance of the pilot actions aimed at the optimal use of excess water in the Municipality of Drama.
  • Investigating and creating a protocol to provide direction to the project team and specification of the methodology for the recommended irrigation dose, through the use of smart tools.
  • The evaluation report with directions to the project team to assess the performance and opportunities to apply the smart system to other Pavlos Melas parks.
