IT PROTECTED
Management of riparian habitats and visitors, dissemination of knowledge and public awareness in the protected areas
The development of the “IT-PROTECTED” project proposal was driven by the presence of protected areas from the pan-European Natura network and the Ramsar treaty, as well as common challenges and opportunities for the coastal natural environment and protected areas of the cross-border area of Greece – Bulgaria. The project aims to promote natural resources, develop ecotourism, and improve conditions for the protection and sustainability of wildlife and habitats in the transboundary area.
To achieve its objectives, the project focuses on providing telematic-tourist services to visitors of the Nestos Delta and the Axios-Loudia-Aliakmons Delta, through the use of terminals (digital guides) that contain information and audio-visual material for each habitat, as well as real-time viewing over the internet of the image from the two deltas. Additionally, the project includes the construction of a bird shelter and care center, a bird observatory, and a horse shelter.
Contribution
Euroaction not only formulated the project proposal and secured funding but also provided technical and consulting support to the lead partner, the Municipality of Delta, and other partners such as the Municipality of Chalkidonos, the Municipality of Nestos, and the Axios-Loudia-Aliakmonas Delta Management Agency during the project’s implementation. Moreover, as part of the project, Euroaction successfully established an electronic observatory in the Delta of Nestos and Axios-Loudia-Aliakmonas, which offers an integrated observation and tour system with advanced tourist guides and rich audiovisual content.
